directed and animated by HOTCHI KAZUHIRO / music by MAKI MATSUDA
Debuted February, 2005.
ANIMA is a dance animation movie representing a human "life".
Produced whilst at Tokyo University of the Arts, the completion of this short film convinced Hotchi to take up a life career as an artist.
Wanting to examine the Human condition through the lens of the body and eager to use the simplest method possible, the film was created from a base of 1500 pencil drawings which later came to life as the finished animation.
Concurrently, Hotchi worked on a second animation film for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporaton) titled "To the Sky". Although he thought of this second film as Anima's twin, its very colorful and heartwarming atmosphere contrasted strongly with "Anima”.
